Three talented Westhampton Beach High School student-musicians recently had the honor to perform with the New York State Band Directors Association High School Honor Band in Syracuse.

The students, Lilah Caputo (clarinet, grade 10), Angelina LeMaire (clarinet, grade 11) and Yulianna Mendez-Yaxon (flute, grade 11), were selected for the honor based on their spring 2022 NYSSMA solo adjudication scores and teacher recommendations.

They joined over 110 other high school students from across the state to perform very challenging music with a high degree of musicianship. Their conductor, Dr. Andrew Boysen Jr., composed their final piece on the program, “Phoenix.”

“Our students left inspired and rejuvenated as musicians and made some new friends along the way,” said Josh Seifert, symphonic band director. “We are so proud of them and grateful that they had this opportunity.”
