Westhampton Beach High School seniors learned about the dangers of drinking and driving during a hands-on STOP program on Dec. 5.

During the assemblies, led by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, students learned not only about the dangers of drinking and driving, but also about the risks when drinking and walking, good decision-making and Leandra’s Law.

After hearing from the officers, the students attempted to steer a pedal car through an obstacle course, wearing goggles that simulated intoxication. They also tried to walk the course wearing goggles that simulated their vision after drinking three times the legal limit.

Freshmen and sophomores will also be participating in alcohol and drug training in December with a visit from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s BAT Mobile, a mobile breath alcohol testing vehicle.
