Westhampton Beach High School’s broadcasting program, “The Hurricane Watch,” took home four awards from this year’s BASH Awards, held at Hofstra University.

The Westhampton students earned third place in the Newsday multimedia category, third place for Best Opening segment, and honorable mention in both Best Broadcast and Best Sports Package.

Sponsored by ABC-7 and Newsday, the BASH Awards celebrate the work of high school broadcast programs. This year was the largest and most competitive BASH to date, with over 1,000 students in attendance and 252 submissions.

Prior to the awards ceremony, Westhampton Beach’s broadcast journalism classes, taught by Dariah Luciano and Kirsten Mett., took a tour of the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication and learned from professionals in breakout sessions about topics such as “Broadcasting Live High School Sports” and “What It's Like Working in Media: Early Career Tips.”

The Westhampton Beach School District extends its congratulations to “The Hurricane Watch” crew on a job well done.
