Westhampton Beach girls basketball standouts and coach honored by Newsday

Westhampton Beach High School girls basketball players Sandra Clarke and Kate Sweet, along with head coach Katie Peters, were recently honored by Newsday for their outstanding performances during a historic season.

Clarke, a senior guard, earned a place on Newsday’s All-Long Island Girls Basketball First Team after playing a key role in leading the Hurricanes to their third consecutive Suffolk Class AA title. She delivered an exceptional performance in the Long Island championship game, scoring 31 points in a 61-58 victory and helping secure the program’s first Long Island title since 2025.

Sweet, a junior guard, was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island Second Team. A consistent offensive leader, she contributed 15 points in the Suffolk Class AA championship game and averaged an impressive 21 points per game throughout the Suffolk playoffs, helping propel the team to championships.

At the helm, Peters was named Newsday’s Suffolk Coach of the Year in recognition of her leadership and dedication. Under her guidance, the Hurricanes captured the Suffolk Class AA title and went on to earn their first Long Island championship in several years.
