Science Teacher of the Year

Westhampton Beach High School science research teacher Dr. Dianna Gobler has been named the recipient of the Suffolk Science Teachers Association of New York State High School Teacher of the Year Award.

Dr. Gobler was nominated for the award by Westhampton Beach High School Principal Dr. Christopher Herr. She earned the recognition for displaying excellence in science education.

“I truly love my job and am completely honored to be recognized in this way,” she said.

Dr. Gobler has taught at Westhampton Beach High School since 2016, with course subjects including biology, science research, AP Research: STEM and biotechnology. She earned her Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Gettysburg College and her doctorate in molecular biology and biochemistry at Stony Brook University, where she also worked as a researcher for several years before transitioning to teaching. In addition to teaching, Dr. Gobler is co-principal investigator for the SPARK Spectroscopy High School Research Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory. She is also one of 10 teachers to have been selected for the prestigious Regeneron STEM Teaching Fellowship through Teachers College of Columbia University.

The Westhampton Beach School District extends its congratulations to Dr. Gobler for being named Teacher of the Year.
