Westhampton Beach Elementary School students are engaged in a schoolwide art project as part of Guild Hall’s Student Art Festival and in-school artist-in-residence program.

As part of the initiative, the students have been paired with artist-in-residence Laurie Lambrecht to bring to life a project that is inspired by Lambrecht’s studio practice as a photographer, fiber and installation artist, as well as by this year's Student Art Festival topic of “Eco vs. Ego.”

For the project, students will work with Lambrecht to construct the frame and walls of a small house and create small weavings, prints and sit-upons (cushions). For the walls, students are learning to “paint” with colored yarn and wrap it around driftwood that Lambrecht collected from beaches along the East End. The driftwood pieces will become the walls to the house.

The completed project will be displayed at the museum from Jan. 18 to Feb. 24 along with projects developed by other East End schools.
