Westhampton Beach athletes commit to colleges

Five more Westhampton Beach High School senior athletes penned their names to letters of intent during a recent college signing ceremony. They join 16 of their peers who committed in the fall.

The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates the following students:

Westhampton Beach student-athlete recognized for leadership, athletics and service

Westhampton Beach High School junior Elizabeth Sultan has been named the recipient of the Suffolk County Female Athlete of the Year Award, presented in partnership with the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame and Team Up 4 Community.

Sultan earned the honor in recognition of her accomplishments as a student-athlete, as well as her leadership, character and commitment to serving others. As part of the award, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward her continuing education.

A standout athlete, Sultan is a member of the school’s varsity soccer team and competes on the varsity winter and spring track teams, specializing in hurdles and pole vault. Beyond athletics, she is actively involved in her school community as a member of the Key Club and the Business Advisory Board. She is also passionate about music, singing and playing the French horn.

Sultan was also recognized for founding Peter’s Packages, a service initiative created in memory of her father. Through the project, she curates care packages filled with items and resources designed to bring comfort and healing to children and families experiencing grief. Each package includes age-appropriate items such as puzzles, games, weighted blankets, crafts and other comforting items that promote emotional well-being.

To support the initiative, Sultan created an Amazon Wish List to collect donations and partnered with her varsity soccer team to raise funds through T-shirt and cookie sales.

Of earning the award, she said, “I am very honored. It is nice to see that hard work pays off while on and off the field.”

Girls varsity golf player heading to states

For the second year in a row, Westhampton Beach High School varsity golf player Dagny Beasley will head to the state championship to represent the Hurricanes. She earned the spot after placing sixth in the Suffolk County Golf Championship. The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates Beasley on this achievement.
 

Westhampton Beach seniors earn Zone Awards

Westhampton Beach High School seniors Addison Celi and John Paul Peters were recently honored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance as winners of the Suffolk Zone Student Leadership Award. The two were selected based on their excellence in physical education, leadership ability and service to the community. Celi, a varsity softball player, will be attending Louisiana State University in the fall to study mass communications, and Peters, a varsity football player, will attend the University of New Hampshire in the fall to play football and study sports management.

Junior football player earns Scholar-Athlete award

Westhampton Beach High School junior Nicholas Simone has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Suffolk Chapter of the National Football Foundation. He earned the award for his excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Aside from his academic strengths, Simone has earned All-Division and All-County accolades as a member of his school’s varsity football team. He is also a member of his school’s baseball and winter track teams.
