Westhampton Beach High School senior Kylah Avery has earned a full four-year college scholarship to Northwestern University through the QuestBridge Match Scholarship Program.

Avery is one of 17,900 applicants to earn a QuestBridge scholarship, which connects high-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with full four-year scholarships to 48 of the nation’s best colleges.

The accomplished senior is an AP Scholar with Distinction and earned National African American and National Indigenous Recognition awards through the College Board National Recognition Program for excelling on her PSAT and Advanced Placement exams. She will also receive a prestigious AP Capstone designation on her diploma.

Avery is a member of her school’s varsity basketball team and Interact Club. Outside of school, she volunteers with the Westhampton Beach Junior Ambulance and the basketball program for the Hampton Youth Athletic League.

Of the scholarship, Avery said she is very excited, and the opportunity is allowing her to enjoy her senior year and not worry about financial aid and college applications.

“I am looking forward to making new friends,” said Avery, who listed Northwestern as one of her top college choices on the QuestBridge application for its location and science program. She plans to major in biology on a pre-med track.

The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates Kylah Avery on this outstanding academic accomplishment.
