In honor of Black History Month, Westhampton Beach Elementary School students are learning about influential African Americans through a variety of activities sponsored by the school’s Equity Committee. Students created Instagram posts that featured influential African Americans. Their work, which included short messages about the person they chose and a corresponding picture, is displayed outside their classrooms. Additionally, members of the school’s student council created a tree display, titled Rooted and Grounded in Black History, on a bulletin board in the school’s main hallway that features information about influential African Americans.
