To promote a love of reading among Westhampton Beach Middle School sixth grade students, reading teacher Camille Pedersen and school librarian Yvonne Perez teamed up to create a two-day book tasting and Starbooks event in the library.

During the book tasting, students were invited to “Perezerseni's Café,” where they sat at decorated library tables and given a menu that offered different literary genres for them to try, or taste.”

“Students sampled different books and had the opportunity to check out books that they wanted to continue reading,” said Pedersen.

The following day, the library was transformed into a “Starbooks,” where students enjoyed warm drinks and had a choice to continue reading the books they previously selected or play word games.
