Westhampton Beach High School’s Virtual Enterprise team, EcoEats, has become one of only two teams in the country to advance to the national VE competition in all five categories: business plan, human resources, finance, QuickBooks and marketing.

The students will compete on April 17 and 18 in New York City. They will then participate in the VE International Trade Show at the Javits Center on April 19.

EcoEats earned its spot at the national VE competition after competing at the Long Island Regional Conference and Exhibition, coordinated by the nonprofit Virtual Enterprises International.

The students’ virtual company sells edible spoons, sporks and straws. They developed the business to combat the enormous amount of waste caused by the disposal of plastic utensils.

The Westhampton Beach High School Virtual Enterprise program requires students to create a business concept and formulate plans to market it.

The Westhampton Beach School District extends its congratulations to the EcoEats team: Anthony Agudelo, chief marketing officer; Chelsea Berry, chief operating officer; Emma Davis, chief executive officer; Patricija Dirzius, chief financial officer; and Max Haynia, chief technology officer.
